Concord, New Hampshire – As part of the New Hampshire Department of Education's NHATconnect project, the 4th Annual Assistive Technology Expo attracted approximately 35 vendors, disability advocates, and families interested in learning about different types of assistive technologies and their benefits. It is expected that they will gather.
“We are proud to present this unique event to help raise awareness and educate others about new and innovative technologies that help people of all abilities thrive,” said Rebecca Fredette, state director of the Office of Special Educational Services. We are very happy to be able to hold the event again.” “Many of the assistive technology devices on display at the expo are aimed at empowering students through communication, learning and movement.”
Sponsored by the Office of Special Educational Services, the May 16 Expo is free for educators and the public to attend and provides a day of networking opportunities to help everyone thrive in inclusive learning environments .
“With so much being learned online, it’s refreshing to host an event where parents of children with disabilities can ask questions one-on-one and learn about assistive devices. This is a great way to support your child’s education. This is especially true for families who want to use their NH ABLE PLAN account funds in the United States,” said Charles Saia, executive director of the Governor’s Commission on Persons with Disabilities.
Vendors demonstrating on-site include Learning Ally, The Center on Inclusive Technology and Education Systems, Future Insight, Hear to Learn, Lightspeed Technologies, New England Low Vision and Blindness, and Northeast Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services/. Relay NH etc.
“Assistive technology has made a difference for my child. She is currently excelling in college and preparing for a career. The Assistive Technology Expo is a great way for families to learn about supports and services in New Hampshire and beyond. It’s a great learning opportunity,” said Michelle Lewis, executive director of the Parent Resource Center. “Families will have important information and resources they can use to advocate for their child and ensure that their child has the assistive technology they need to succeed.”
“The information and resources shared at the Assistive Technology Expo have helped our district implement accessible materials for our students,” said Zandra Regan, director of special education for the Fall Mountain Area School District. .
