Big changes are coming to college football in 2024. One of his is his recently approved proposal to allow his one player on the team to communicate directly with the coach. Quarterbacks are poised to benefit from the approval of this additional technology.
Football Scoop reported further on the matter, quoting Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock on what this change means.
“The kids like it because they don't have to yell at other guys because they have to talk to the quarterback,” Denbrock said two weeks before Notre Dame wrapped up spring training. “I think there are some benefits to this. Once the play call comes in, I can easily remind the quarterback. But as long as I don't stutter too much and listen to the headset, they can I think it will be helpful.”
“Especially young quarterbacks. [Saying] “Based on the game plan, let's keep an eye on the weak side, things like that. Just give us a little bit of help running plays the right way. I think that helps, and as much of the play clock as possible. I think giving them plays and information early gives them a chance to settle in and get everyone else lined up.”
