BT Group and Broadpeak®, leading providers of content delivery networks (CDNs) and video streaming solutions for content providers and pay-TV operators around the world, today announced that they are partnering on a new solution for live video streaming. Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery (MAUD) solutions enable more reliable, efficient and sustainable live video streaming with superior quality and Broadpeak's nanoCDN™ multicast ABR (mABR) capabilities. Many major broadcasters and content companies are expected to pilot this breakthrough solution in 2024.

Broadpeak is providing BT Group with components to build the world's first MAUD-enabled network, including nanoCDN mABR, a globally proven and widely deployed solution for video streaming. nanoCDN is integrated into BT Group's consumer smart hub routers and leverages multicast capabilities to group individual streams in the network core and then unicast them at the edge for use by player applications on end-user devices. Convert it again. MAUD allows video service providers to serve millions of viewers with a single stream, increasing content delivery efficiency and reducing costs for broadcasters, CDNs, and Internet service providers.

MAUD's unique architecture takes mABR a step further by seamlessly integrating with content providers' player applications, eliminating the need to modify customers' apps. By reducing the number of caches deployed, MAUD reduces bandwidth usage by up to 50% during peak events and reduces energy usage. Efficient delivery of live video streaming also enables broadcasters and video service providers to deliver a higher quality experience.

Howard Watson, BT Group Chief Security and Network Officer

As more live events move online or online-only, we're seeing a significant increase in traffic. MAUD is a revolutionary development in the way live video is distributed over the Internet. This improves the video streaming experience for viewers, delivers a more reliable and consistent picture, and improves content delivery efficiency for broadcasters and video service providers. A technology provider with a proven track record of success in innovating and deploying multicast ABR, he is pleased to partner with Broadpeak and leverage the company's technology as part of its MAUD solution.

Jacques Le Manc, CEO of Broadpeak

We are thrilled to support BT Group in the launch of such an exciting live video streaming initiative. MAUD is a game-changer for broadcasters and video service providers by addressing key requirements such as improving video quality, simplifying content delivery, and increasing sustainability.
