Continued investment in technology and construction projects received support from Crawfordsville School Board members Thursday.
The board approved $105,000 in technology advances from the Common School Fund to purchase Chromebooks and licenses to supplement the one-on-one program at the high school. This financing will supplement other funds used to purchase technology.
“Student-centric and backup software updates will better protect student devices and allow our technology team to more efficiently manage the program,” Superintendent Rex Riker reported.
The board also provided support for a number of projects related to the renovation and expansion of the current preschool program and the district's intention to provide employer-sponsored child care at Wilson Preschool Academy. , approved a $212,500 loan from the Common School Fund.
Projects completed with these funds include asbestos removal in the gymnasium, carpet replacement in classrooms and office suites, classroom renovations to provide infant and toddler childcare, kitchen upgrades, and building-wide electrical system upgrades. It is included.
“These projects will allow us to provide care for CCSC's youngest students, improve the quality of student life, and provide additional benefits to our staff in the form of child care,” Riker said.
In personnel matters, the board approved the retirement of CHS social studies teacher Christopher Irvin, who taught for 32 years, and Hoover fourth grade teacher Steve Spencer, who taught for 34 years.
The board accepted the resignation of Joyce Musselman, Hoover's assistant director of life skills. Jared Kaminsky, CHS science teacher. Jill Kokanower, Principal Nicholson; Karen Crawford, CARA Instructor. and Hung Truong, a math teacher at CHS. The hiring of Emily Brown as a Hoover music teacher and Edward Schieferman as a CHS science teacher was approved.
In other duties, the Board of Directors will:
• Approved international travel opportunities for students in 2026. The proposed trip to the Mediterranean coast is open to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students.
• Approved CHS, CMS, and Alternative Handbooks.
• Accepted a resolution to compensate board members $150 per meeting.
• We learned that Tami Haas and Jen Hall have completed their first year at the Indiana Principal Leadership Institute.
• Learned ILEARN tests begin on Monday and run through May 10th. 3rd grade through her 8th grade will be tested in math and Japanese, 4th grade and her 6th grade will be tested in science, and 5th grade will also be tested in social studies.
• We learned that the Montgomery County Early Childhood Coalition and CHS will be hosting a family fun day on April 20th. This event will include free games, activities, music and refreshments. The first 100 families will receive a swag bag. PBS Kids' Daniel the Tiger and Athens mascot Alexander will appear.
• You are reminded that the League of Women Voters will be hosting a literacy panel on April 16th in the Commons at CHS.
The next board meeting will be held on May 7th at 5:30pm at Nicholson Elementary School.
