According to the commission, Dallas Police Department Maj. Steven Williams told the commission, “This solution is to collect all publicly posted photos that anyone posts on social media, news media, etc. on the Internet. and will be used for comparative analysis.” Jacob Vaughn of the Dallas Observer.
The DO article cites privacy concerns and other issues that have been raised regarding Clearview AI's technology, which has been widely adopted by law enforcement agencies across the United States. Both Chief Garcia and Director Williams , emphasized awareness of those concerns.
According to the DO, Garcia told the committee that he would like to “take the time to look at what's really going on and how we can improve our policies and things of that nature when it comes to facial recognition.” I'm glad I was able to do it,” he said.
