BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Sam's Club on April 30 introduced new exit technology that uses artificial intelligence and cameras to scan your receipt as you exit the front door. This eliminates the need for employees to check receipts at the door.
The technology was first announced at Walmart's keynote at CES 2024 in Las Vegas in January. Sam's Club is a subsidiary of Walmart.
Todd Garner, chief product officer at Sam's Club, says the goal of the new exit arch is to provide quick access to and from the club.
“This technology, combined with our 'Scan & Go' shopping experience, provides a nearly frictionless shopping experience. No stopping, no queuing, no friction. Members can just walk away and it's a very different experience than what we've had in the past,” Garner said.
Garner said the new exit experience was added due to feedback from club members.
Sam's Club said in a news release that the technology allows customers to exit the store 23% faster.
The company says it plans to have the technology in all clubs by the end of 2024.
