ottawa, ontario, May 23, 2024 /CNW/ – Ingenium – Canada's The Museum of Science and Innovation is preparing to open its doors to the public for the first time, allowing unprecedented access to its national collections. Saturday, June 1, 2024as part of Doors Open Ottawa. Visitors can discover the wonders of one of the world's most unique collections and learn about the significant efforts that have gone into preserving its story. At any given time, only about 12 per cent of the total collection is on display at Ingenium's three museums: the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum, the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, and the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology. Many of the remaining exhibits are housed in the Ingenium Center.
The event offers a unique opportunity to explore the Ingenium Centre and uncover the story of the collections, step into the vast library and archives, discover how Ingenium is infusing new ideas and experiences into the collections through its digital innovation labs and research centres, and engage with experts from a dedicated team of curatorial and preservation professionals.
At the Ingenium Center Canada's Science and technology collections focused on the fields of transportation (air, space, land, and ocean), physical sciences, medicine, communications, agriculture, and natural resources. It houses over 2 million archives, trade literature and library materials (books, historical photographs, archival documents) and over 150,000 items including locomotives, tractors, porcelain plates, seeds, nuclear reactors and household items. .
