Ercogen will develop a new production facility in Tallinn, Estonia to expand its manufacturing capacity for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and stacks, solid oxide electrolyzers (SOECs) and stacks.
14,000 meters2 The power plant, located within the Loovälja industrial park, will have a production capacity of 10 MW to 360 MW and is expected to be operational by mid-2025. Elcogen will develop the facility in collaboration with Maru Ehitus AS.
Elcogen plans to implement the latest technology featuring a customized, automated, high-power production process that enables high-volume production.
Stefano Piscitelli, Elcogen's chief operating officer, expects the new facility to increase efficiency and reduce production costs by 60%.
“The scalability of our production technology allows us to further optimize our cost structure, and this plant also serves as an industrial platform for our global expansion,” added the COO.
“Our main focus is industrial real estate and the new production facility in Ercogen gives us the opportunity to leverage our experience,” said Margo Dengo, CEO of Mar Echtus. But it's also an interesting challenge. The building is very complex and demanding from the process side, and some modern technologies are used, such as the reuse of surplus heat.
Earlier this year (2024), Elcogen and its partner Convion announced a breakthrough success in green hydrogen production using solid oxide electrolyser technology.

What to say in H2 View Conversation with Ceres During the webinar, Ceres Power CCO Tony Cochrane argued that SOEC and SOFC technologies have the potential to dominate industries such as ammonia production and aviation fuels.
The high temperature process allows solid oxide systems to produce and convert hydrogen with superior efficiency compared to PEM and alkaline technologies.
