Evangeline Parish, Louisiana (kulfi) — From technological advancements to new reasons for community involvement, proactive law enforcement advancements are a priority for the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Charles Guillory said this progress began earlier this year when his office was given a drone, which has already been instrumental in arresting multiple murder suspects. Additionally, the Sheriff's Office purchased two license plate readers and installed them in key areas of the parish.
“This year we want to get two more, so we have four. And my idea is, in other words, to put them in the four corners of the parish, so that we can protect the parish,” Guillory said. he said.
Guillory said tips from the community also play a big role in knowing where to deploy the drones.
Guillory said he relies on the community, so he worked with other sheriff's offices in Acadiana to design the Evangeline Parish Crime Stopper Program, which offers cash rewards for tips.
“This is a really good program. When you give money, the phone rings with the help of the community. It means a lot because we can't do this without them,” Guillory said. said. “And doing something completely anonymous means a lot to them.”
With these successes and more to come, Guillory said he is proud of the firm's proactive approach. Guillory said his goal is to have a crime prevention program in place within the next three weeks.
