Ferrari SpA has partnered with SK On, the world's fifth-largest producer of electric vehicle batteries, to innovate cell technology as the Italian luxury sports car maker plans to launch its first fully electric car next year. I tried.

According to SK On, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to share expertise and strengthen cooperation to lead global innovation in battery cell technology.

The agreement comes amid media reports that Ferrari will introduce its first EV in the final quarter of 2025 and will open a new factory in Maranello, Italy, in June to manufacture electric motors, battery packs and power inverters. Ta.

“We are pleased to join Ferrari, the global supercar leader, on its electrification journey,” Lee Seok-Hee, president and CEO of SK On, said in a statement.

Last August, Ferrari announced that by 2026, around 60% of its lineup will be split between fully electric and hybrid cars.

Ferrari's sole battery supplier

SK On is the sole battery supplier for car manufacturers' plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

The South Korean company has been supplying cells for Ferrari's first PHEVs, the SF90 Stradale and SF90 Spider, since 2019.

The company supplied batteries for the 296 GTB released in 2021 and the 296 GTS released in 2022.

SK On batteries are also installed in the limited edition models Ferrari announced last year, the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider.
