FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE) – Fresno high school students are getting hands-on experience with the latest green technology, and on Monday they were able to show off what they've been working on.
It may seem like a fun day outside the classroom, but it's serious business for Edison High School students who participate in the school's annual Tech Expo.
“Not everyone knows what goes on in high school, and we have a lot to be proud of, especially here. It's so nice to see that on display,” Edison said. said high school teacher John Berg.
Berg is the lead teacher in Edison's Green Energy and Technology Academy. His students put on an impressive show in collaboration with students from his engineering and computer science courses. It was the culmination of a year's worth of hard work, with robotics competitions, science projects, and committees.
“It's more of a practical exam than a written exam. So they not only get inspired and create from paintings and other works, but they also have the opportunity to build what they've developed on paper.” says Siong Cha, a teacher at Edison High School.
It's also a chance to have fun and gain skills you can use in the future, whether or not you decide to follow a Stem career path.
“I enjoy working with people because everything I've done has been a team project. It's been a team project since my freshman year,” says student Jose Sanchez.
Fellow student Citralee Avila Gonzalez agrees.
“I think this program will help students get a feel for what engineering will be like in the future and help them decide if they want to pursue this career.”
Although some students say they are interested in becoming an engineer, the experience of collaborating with others to develop projects is a useful skill no matter what career they choose.
