In the evolving landscape of contemporary art, renowned Santa Clarita artist Tiffany Trenda pushes the boundaries of performative art and mixed media painting in captivating and unique ways by utilizing technology and the human body in interactive experiences. We aim to expand this.
Trenda knew from an early age that she wanted to pursue art as a career. She developed her passion by taking painting lessons where she explored oil painting, acrylic painting, drawing, and many other avenues.
She describes her artistic journey as an evolution, discovering her unique style of performance art by incorporating other interests into her work.
With a minimal background in dance and growing hobbies such as photography and video, she began to put together puzzle pieces to create her own approach, thereby bringing her art to different parts of the world. I was able to.
“When I did that, I thought, 'Oh, this is amazing,'” she said.
She said she began developing the concept of wearable artwork when she attended UCLA's Design and Media Arts program. Wearables are a common theme found throughout her performance installations.
“We are inspired by a lot of different things: fashion, technology, technology, etc.,” Trenda said. “All these different types of devices have always inspired me. How do they affect us and how do they affect our bodies and the way we interact? Will you give me that?”
One of Trenda's notable performances, “Body Code,” premiered in 2012. Trenda himself wears a latex piece with his QR code all over it, and when the audience scans the code, they are redirected to a page where they can read his Google search, which consists of data. and specific body parts.
At the time, “QR codes were all the rage in 2011-2012, but first-timers didn't even know how to use them. “I was inspired by 'Body Code,'” Trenda said.
Other films Trenda has produced and starred in over the course of his 23-year career include “Ubiquitous States,” “Proximity Cinema” and “Specular.”
She has been featured in museums such as the Broad Art Museum in Los Angeles, Expo 2010 in Shanghai, Laboratorio Arte Alameda in Mexico City, and most recently had a sold-out show at Context Art Miami in December.
Her career has garnered respect and attention from various people in the art community. She has traveled the world performing and connecting with audiences in her one-piece wearables and her art pieces.
Trenda recently shifted to creating mixed media paintings inspired by performance installation archives that utilize artificial intelligence applications and hand-crafted digital works, she said.
During the pandemic, Trenda wasn't able to show off her work as much as she would have liked due to social distancing measures and performance and other events being canceled.
“They're very intimate and physical. They're all about bringing people closer together. That had a huge impact on the way I think about my work. So I started working on AI applications and learning about my history, my performance. I started thinking and thinking of ways to do something. [where] I'm not physically there. ”
Trenda finds that although her art pieces are not as interactive as performance installations, they still create emotions when people look at her work.
“It’s about art, and there’s also a feeling you can experience that I think is very unique.”
