CAMDEN — MSAD 28 and Five Towns CSD will host a community presentation by Grace Chen on technology use and children on Thursday, April 11th at 7 p.m., in the Bisbee Theater at Camden-Lockport Middle School. The presentation is titled “Screens and Children: Defining Categories of Device Use, Understanding the Impact on Children, and Ideas for Managing Family Screen Time.”

Parents and teachers in our community are witnessing negative behaviors and consequences they attribute to children's screen time. What are the effects of screen time? Is all screen time the same? Grace explains how different types of devices are used, how they are built in certain ways, and how it affects today's youth. Provides an insider's perspective on how it's impacting Although there is no single solution to this challenge, this presentation provides a framework for how to manage family decisions regarding device use.

Grace Chen has spent the past 20 years building technology products and businesses in the Silicon Valley technology industry. She has developed products for consumers, small businesses, and enterprises at leading technology companies such as Google, Meta, and Square. In 2016, she co-founded a startup that provides an affordable, high-speed internet alternative to cable. She sold her company to her Meta in 2020. She holds several patents for her work in technology product development.

Chen began his career as an engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She holds a bachelor's degree in management science and engineering from Stanford University.

Ms. Chen lives in Camden with her husband and two children, who both attend Camden-Lockport Elementary School.
