The Guthrie Police Department's strategic deployment of technology has resulted in the successful arrest of two individuals in a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle that reached speeds of up to 195 mph.

In April 2023, the department began using Flock Safety automatic license plate readers citywide, effectively collecting critical vehicle data known as a vehicle's “fingerprint.” This state-of-the-art system has proven useful in solving numerous crimes, including a recent incident that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Troopers responded quickly to a report of a possible stolen 2009 Honda Accord near State Route 33 and Academy Road in Texas after being alerted by a camera system. Based on this information, police intercepted the vehicle just before 4 a.m. and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon approach, the driver, later identified as 18-year-old Jazmine Sanders Walker, was informed of the vehicle's stolen status and instructed to exit the vehicle, as detailed in the police report. However, as the officer attempted to disable the vehicle, Walker evaded compliance and accelerated away.

The chase continued as Walker drove through city streets at dangerous speeds. He turned onto 19th Street, headed north onto Broadway, then west, where he entered SH-33 at speeds in excess of 190 mph, endangering other drivers on the road. Despite taking evasive action to avoid a collision, the chase culminated near 122nd Street in Oklahoma City, where the stolen vehicle lost control while trying to avoid other vehicles and eventually crashed into a barrier. .

Sanders-Walker was arrested along with 30-year-old Eddie Bryant, taken to the city jail, and then transported to the Logan County Detention Center. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.

Assisting Officer Guthrie in this operation were the Logan County Sheriff's Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and Oklahoma City Police Department. During the search, authorities found marijuana inside the vehicle.

At the time of reporting, Sanders-Walker was facing one charge – aggravated attempt to elude a police officer – with further court proceedings scheduled for Thursday. Walker has chosen not to engage with investigators at this time.

Both suspects remain in custody at the Logan County Jail.
