Hagerstown, Maryland (DC News Now) — A team of Hagerstown aerospace maintenance students returned home from a national aviation conference that put their skills to the test.
Students competed in their aviation skills in the so-called Olympics.
“We learned about all the different components that are manufactured. We learned that even small things like wheel assemblies and propellers can lead to thousands of products,” said Cameron Weaver, an aeronautical engineer. Ta. “It was almost overwhelming.”
Nick Powell, an aircraft maintenance engineer at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, called it “mind-boggling.”
“There was so much to see, so much to do, so many connections to make,” Powell said.
For aviation technology student Jake Luo, the experience was exciting.
“I look forward to the industry's fast-paced environment and its global reach,” Luo said. “I think that’s very exciting for me.”
One team member is already pursuing a job with a major manufacturer of private jets.
“We have a conditional offer from Gulfstream in Savannah,” said aviation engineer Caleb Wanner. “So, I'm going to Savannah in a week to look at apartments and get used to my new life.”
