Agreement marks an important step towards Romania's first lunar mission

Luxembourg, May 14, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)– ispace EUROPE SA (ispace-EUROPE) and Control Data Systems SRL (CDS), Luxembourg subsidiaries of ispace, inc., will transport precision positioning equipment to Luxembourg We have concluded a payload service agreement for this purpose. Mr. Moon and both companies made the announcement.

Combining precision location and telecommunications, CDS' technology uses ultra-wideband to determine precise location and was developed specifically for space applications with support from the European Space Agency. Since there is no GPS-like system on the moon, this technology will be a breakthrough for future applications related to lunar exploration.

The agreement between the two companies is a joint first step toward making a significant contribution to the scientific understanding of the Moon, with the potential for future commercial purposes. It is also the first Romanian payload delivered to the moon. The technology is scheduled to be integrated into the APEX 1.0 Lunar Module as part of ispace technology US (ispace-US) Mission 3, currently scheduled for 2026. The lunar rover will transport CDS instruments to the surface and use its antenna to test localization techniques. APEX 1.0 remains on the lander.
