MANSFIELD — A new partnership between the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library (MRCPL) and PCs for People will make technology more affordable for those who need it.
The partnership also provides low-cost, high-speed internet solutions. As part of the launch of the new partnership, MRCPL will be holding a pop-up shop on Saturday 1st June.
From 10 a.m. to noon, eligible customers will have the opportunity to purchase a $150 laptop, a $75 desktop computer with monitor, keyboard and mouse, or a $60 internet hotspot.
MRCPL encourages pre-registration for the event to guarantee eligibility. Click here to pre-register and review eligibility requirements.
“This partnership with PCs for People not only supports Richland County's goal of closing the digital divide, but also helps us reach more families with essential devices needed for virtual school, career support, and more. It also helps,” said library director Chris May.
PCs for People is a national nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to providing affordable refurbished computers to qualified customers.
The organization operates by refurbishing and selling used computers, laptops, tablets, and non-tube televisions.
In addition to providing affordable technology, MRCPL and PC for People are also inviting community members to recycle their unwanted electronics by dropping them off at an electronics recycling drive on Saturday, June 1st. I encourage it.
Used computers, laptops, tablets, non-tube televisions, and other hardware can be dropped off at a truck parked in the east parking lot of the main library building.
