The first National Technology Day was celebrated on May 11, 1999, and since then, the day has been used to highlight the country's technological progress in various fields.

National Technology Day: Date and Theme

National Technology Day will be celebrated on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Each year, the theme for the event is selected by the Technology Development Board (TDB).

The theme of this year's event is “School to Startups – Inspiring Young Minds to Innovate”. This year's National Technology Day theme aims to inspire young minds to innovate and set them on the path to founding startups, while highlighting the country's amazing scientific achievements.

National Technology Day: History and Significance

As part of Operation Shakti, India successfully conducted a nuclear missile test at the Indian Army's Pokharan Range on May 11, 1998. With the successful nuclear test at Pokharan, India became the sixth country in the world to possess nuclear weapons.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government has directed the Technology Council to hold National Technology Day celebrations on May 11 from next year. Since then, the event has become an annual tradition aimed at highlighting India's scientific exploration, technological creativity and innovation.

The central government will also use this platform to announce the winners of Rashtriya Vigyan Purashkar (National Science Award). Meanwhile, several seminars, conferences and exhibitions are being held across the country to showcase India's technological prowess.
