The North Korean military recently created a new department tasked with promoting the use of AI technology for national defense, Daily NK reported.
A Daily NK source in the North Korean military, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Thursday that the General Staff Combat Training Bureau “created a new subordinate division called the Electronic Warfare and AI Operations Command in late March, and created a new sub-department called the Electronic Warfare and AI Operations Command, which will be staffed with capable engineers. I'm fulfilled,” he said. people in the defense and military sectors; ”
Officials said the new division's operational goals are to improve the nation's stockpile of modernized electronic weapons and use AI technology to enhance the military's operational command capabilities.
The ministry is therefore working with the Ministry of Defense Equipment Directorate to develop and deploy AI-based electronic warfare support systems, the official said.
In fact, the department plans to develop a program to automate data analysis and operational planning and create an AI-based electronic warfare support system by late October. The goal is to use this system to enable quick and accurate decision-making during wars and improve the military's ability to command operations.
According to the official, the General Staff believes that the development of systems that utilize AI technology is essential to increasing the speed and efficiency of wartime electronic warfare responses.
The North Korean military's moves appear to be in line with the growing importance of electronic warfare in modern warfare. Fundamentally, the military is building a foundation for maximizing combat command capabilities by developing programs that apply the latest technology.
The official said, “The General Staff has emphasized that the new department will play an important role in national defense.'' “Internally, the department anticipates that if program development proceeds as planned, some electronic warfare unit operations and combat command structures may change before the start of winter training in December. ”
