Gardiner, an Ohio-based HVAC, building technology and services company, is adding Northeast Indiana to its footprint. The company announced this week that it will open an office in Fort Wayne and become the exclusive factory distributor for HVAC manufacturer Daikin.

CEO Todd Barnhart said in a news release that Fort Wayne's proximity to the Ohio border makes it a natural fit for the company's current market. He also noted Northeast Indiana's favorable business climate.

“As much as cities like Cleveland have been historically ignored, most people don't realize what's happened in Fort Wayne over the past few years and what kind of growth trajectory it's currently on. We have not,” Barnhart said in the release. “As an employer and a partner in the region’s construction sector, we think we can have a positive impact on this.”

According to the company's website, Gardiner provides a variety of building technology services, including HVAC, fire protection and security, maintenance and repair, and water treatment.

A Gardiner spokesperson told Inside Indiana Business that no specific financial investment has yet been identified for the Fort Wayne expansion, and that the company plans to begin searching for office space soon.

Gardiner's Fort Wayne operations will begin with a sales office that will include a parts store, and the company is initially looking to hire sales engineers. The total number of new jobs that will be created as a result of the expansion is still unknown, but a spokesman said the company plans to expand the office to accommodate all of Gardiner's operations.

“At Gardiner, we value long-term relationships with local businesses,” Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer Rob McKinley said in the release. “We believe in establishing our business where we do business. We've assembled a world-class local team and look forward to being part of the Greater Fort Wayne business community in the weeks, months and years to come.”

The company plans to open an office in the coming months.
