Oak Lawn Community High School technology students are using their tech skills to help members of their community.



OAK LAWN, Ill. — The OLCHS iTeam, otherwise known as students from the Technology Support Internship class, are using their technology skills to help members of the community. This group of students has become a learning resource beyond the walls of Oak Lawn Community High School.

At Simmons Middle School, the iTeam designed fun, interactive lessons for sixth and seventh graders.
Seventh grade students using the Sphero robot. OLCHS students are now in middle school.
We taught them basic coding skills and then challenged them to navigate a robot through an obstacle course.
“The most fun part was seeing all the kids laughing and having fun,” said Heidi Solis, a third-grader from Hometown.

The iTeam also visited Spectrum's retirement community, Palos Heights Senior Living.

iTeam members are trained in interpersonal communication skills, customer service,

The group will visit an Apple store and receive in-person training and guidance on the new technology.
iTeam members can also earn specialized certifications in Unity games.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to combine their technical skills with real-world applications and give back to their community while gaining valuable soft skills,” said Janet Myers, OLCHS Technology Coach, Apple Distinguished Educator and iTeam teacher. “I am so proud of our students' dedication and the positive impact they are making.”
