Thank you, Professor Reed. I'll be very brief. I will share three development statuses.
Just before spring break, the university announced plans to build two new residence halls. These will be the first new student dormitories built in at least 15 years. The first will be a new dorm located on a currently vacant lot on Ostrom Avenue across the street from Thornden Park. The project is currently in design and construction is expected to begin later this year. The second project will begin with the demolition of the Marion and Kimmel residence halls and the Kimmel Dining Center. A new modern dormitory is scheduled to be built on the site. The size and schedule of the Marion Kimmel site is still being evaluated.
The Student Experience Department has already hosted listening sessions to ensure Ostrom Avenue facilities meet the needs of students. These sessions were attended by a first-year student and her second-year students, fellow educators, LLC students, student life staff and student leaders, and the Student Advisory Board.
These two newly planned residence halls join previously announced plans to convert the Sheraton Hotel into a residence hall, and will fully incorporate 727 South Crouse, formerly known as The Marshall, into our housing stock. is. Renovations at the Sheraton will begin immediately after opening in May. Both that building and the building at 727 South Claus will be part of the residence halls for the fall 2024 semester.
Another update was the announcement that two-time Syracuse graduate and longtime iSchool professor Jeff Rubin will take on a new role as the university's senior vice provost for digital transformation and chief digital officer. That's what many people have seen. His responsibilities include establishing a university-wide artificial intelligence strategy, overseeing data management and security, and leading the information technology team, among other key priorities. Jeff has been working part-time for the past few years as a special advisor to me on SU Global and his digital transformation. He will now assist in this new role full-time. His extraordinary history of success includes planning and implementing high-speed connectivity at the National Weather Service Wireless Dome. He is the founder of SIDEARM Sports, the nation's leading digital provider of college athletics. I am confident that under his leadership, the university is on its way to becoming a leader in digital and technology.
Lastly, I would like to recognize the ACC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, Syracuse's Felisha Leggett Jack. She was also one of 10 coaches to advance to the semifinals for National Coach of the Year. 2 in her season, she is a truly inspirational leader here. The women's team then heads to the NCAA Tournament. They will play the winner of Auburn vs. Arizona on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. I'm very proud of that.
I would also like to give a shout out to our men's basketball coach, Adrian Autry. This year's team won 20 games, the first time in 10 years that they have achieved this feat. Coach Autry has proven in his first season that he is a dedicated coach who puts character at the center of his work.
