2024 SOF WEEK — Tampa, Florida Reticulate Micro, a commercial and defense technology supplier, is showcasing its VAST encoder technology at the SOF Week trade show in Tampa, Florida this week.

This software-based real-time video and image compression system supports AV1 and can handle higher resolutions, frame rates, and bit depths than traditional codecs.Designed to support computer vision and AI [artificial intelligence] applications and the ultra-low bandwidth requirements demanded by many tactical and edge networks.

According to the manufacturer, its main value is real-time encoding of video at lower bit rates than legacy codecs such as H.264 and HEVC. Additionally, its software supports high-entropy (quantum-resistant) cryptographic generation for standard encryption methods such as AES and digital hashing.

VAST is based on open standards such as SRT, WebRTC, Matroska, and can also provide enhanced versions of standards such as Q-SRT, Iridium, Inmarsat, and the US Department of Defense (DoD) UHF TACSAT networks.

Reticulate Micro's SOF Week presentation is presented in partnership with NanTenna. NanTenna will also introduce a mobile L-band antenna at the conference. Thomas Larkin, CEO of NanTenna, noted that L-band has become “the more prevalent frequency in the arsenal of carriers,” adding that in many cases, “UHF is saturated and users are (Figure 1.)

“The release of small form-factor, high-gain antennas for L-band will enable communications equipment to seamlessly connect to a wide range of systems,” he asserted.

Reticulate also recently introduced the VALOR series of electronically steerable antennas (ESA) and entered into a partnership to become the exclusive distributor of Himera's proven G1 Pro tactical radio products to the U.S. government and select alliance partners.
