TEHRAN – The head of the International Center for Science and Technology Cooperation announced that the country is ready to share technology with the United Arab Emirates and Algeria.
Amir Hossein Mirabadi said in a meeting with UAE Deputy Minister of First Industries and Advanced Technology Omar Ahmed Suwaina Al Suwaidi in Tehran on Monday that “there is a need for cooperation in areas such as agriculture and artificial intelligence.'' There are a lot of opportunities.”
UAE officials who visited Iran's House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT) praised the capabilities and progress of Iranian knowledge-based companies, stating that the UAE is ready to cooperate with Iran in various industrial fields and technology companies from both countries. “Positive developments have been observed in the region in recent years. In this regard, the country is interested in investing in various technological areas, such as supply chain.”
Mr Mirabadi further said that one of our main goals is to strengthen cooperation between knowledge-based companies and large, experienced companies to share ideas, technology and expertise.
In addition, Kamel Hammani, President of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI), also visited iHiT in conjunction with his visit to Expo 2024 Iran.
He praised Iran's technological progress and stressed that the visit to Iran's House of Innovation and Technology made the Algerian delegation even more determined for further cooperation with Iran.
The official added that while all parts of the iHiT exhibit were interesting, the Algerian delegation was mainly interested in the medical equipment exhibit.
Iran's economic advancement is evidenced by domestically produced products such as medical linear accelerators, making it the fourth country in technology after the US, UK and China.
Iran and Algeria to strengthen technical ties
On March 5, Iran and Algeria signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation in innovation and technology-related fields.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in Tehran by Rouhollah Dehkani Firzabadi, Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, and Yassin Al-Mahdi Waleed, Algeria's Minister for Economy, Knowledge, Start-ups and Small and Medium Enterprises. Strengthen direct communication between relevant government agencies, regulatory bodies, industrial or commercial organizations, as well as growth centres, accelerators and hubs of innovation and technology.
In order to facilitate the implementation of the agreement, a joint science and technology cooperation committee will be established with equal numbers of representatives from both sides within two months of the signing of the memorandum.
Under the agreement, the Joint Committee will provide direction and guidance for the implementation of the MOU within up to six months from its signing. Plan, coordinate, monitor and promote scientific and technological cooperation among relevant parties.
Sharing technical expertise with Islamic countries
In May 2023, the Deputy Minister of Science stated that Iran is ready to share technological expertise with other Islamic countries.
According to a report by IRNA, Vahid Haddadi-Asr said that science and technology should be applied to create world peace and human justice, and that Islamic countries should work with unity and empathy not only on Islamic countries but also on humankind. He said it can bring peace and progress.
He made the remarks at the first Ministerial Conference of the Platform for Islamic Cooperation and Dialogue (OIC-15), held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on May 25 and 26.
“In the past few years, despite the brutal sanctions imposed by global arrogance against the Islamic Republic of Iran, great progress has been made in the fields of education, research and technology, which is due to Iranian academics and It shows our dependence on scientists. We are always ready to share our technical expertise with other Islamic countries.”
