Naser Bogale, an associate professor of mathematics at Thaddeus Stevens Institute of Technology, will spend the 2024-2025 academic year in Ethiopia as a Fulbright Scholar in Mathematics and Statistics.
Bogale, who has taught at Thaddeus Stevens College since 2009, was selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar by the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Committee. He will teach research methods and advanced statistics to doctoral students at Hawassa University in Ethiopia.
“Mr. Bogale has long been known for his excellence in teaching such complex subjects, as well as his support and guidance of students,” said Antonio Jackson, Thaddeus Stevens University vice president for academic affairs. “We are proud that he has received this honor.”
At Thaddeus Stevens University, Bogale serves on the Academic Policy and Standards Committee and the Curriculum Review Committee. He also serves as an academic advisor for two majors in the university's technology program and is the advisor for the university's Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
Prior to teaching at Thaddeus Stevens, Mr. Bogale served as Dean of Academic Affairs at Nelson Mandela College in Ethiopia and as Deputy Director of Education for the Sidama Region of Ethiopia.
He holds a PhD in Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands, an MA in Mathematics from Millersville University, an MA in Educational Leadership from University College Dublin-Belfield in Ireland, and a BS in Mathematics from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.
The Fulbright Program offers scholarships in more than 160 countries to enable recipients to conduct teaching, research, and professional projects around the world. The program awards more than 1,700 fellowships each year, supporting 800 American scholars abroad and 900 visiting scholars in the United States.
