~“MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0” and new “Motor Parameter Tuning Tool” now available~
Kawasaki, Japan, March 19, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (“Toshiba”) has refined its motor control capabilities with the launch of two innovative tools. “Motor Tuning Studio Ver.1.0” has added a new position estimation control technology “FOC (Field Oriented Control)” to the latest version of the motor control software development kit “MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0” to realize automatic motor calculation. ” in the release parameter. Both are available starting today.
Although FOC is a highly efficient motor control method, it is difficult to implement due to the complexity of using proportional-integral (PI) control gains to tune the motor driver. PI control is typically applied to position control, speed control, and current control, producing three PI control gain parameters that interfere with each other. Adjustments can only be made by trial and error. On the other hand, MCU Motor Studio controls the motor using known motor parameters, but the problem here is that it does not have a function to extract parameters from the motor.
Toshiba's new position estimation control method is based on a magnetic flux observer and does not use PI control for position estimation, making it easier to make adjustments during motor evaluation. This improves stability under high loads compared to conventional position estimation control. MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0, which incorporates a new method, also supports the conventional position control method.
The combination of MCU Motor Studio and MCU Motor Tuning Studio allows users to easily derive initial motor parameters and begin evaluation. Motor Tuning Studio is available through Toshiba's customer inquiry form (inquiries).
Toshiba is promoting the realization of carbon neutrality and a circular economy, and will continue to expand its lineup of FOC microcontrollers and motor control software development kits to support higher efficiency motors.
